홍성현의 초벌비 프로젝트는 한국 무속음악과 전통장단들을 바탕으로 선율악기를 중심으로 타악이 반주가 되던 일반적인 형식을 벗어나 타악을 중심으로 선율악기를 배경으로 한 타악중심의 새로운 창작음악 형식을 추구하며 2011년부터 출발하였다.

처음으로 내리는 한 차례의 비를 뜻하는 ‘초벌비’의 의미처럼 대중과 공감하고 지친 사람들의 마음을 씻어주고 위로하는 음악을 만들고자 끊임없는 창작작업과 음악적 고민을 이어 왔으며 ‘신의 빗방울’은 그 노력의 제대로 된 첫 결실이다.

메마른 땅을 적셔주고 인간의 갈증을 해소하는 ‘비’의 존재가 신의 축복이라는 뜻을 담고 있는 ‘신(神)의 빗방울’은 초벌비 프로젝트의 첫 번째 레퍼토리로 2015년 선을 보인 뒤, 2016년 아시아퍼시픽뮤직미팅(APaMM)의 공식 쇼케이스를 통해 전 세계의 월드뮤직 전문가들에게 호평을 받았으며, 2017년 미국 시카고에서 주관하는 ‘World Music Festival Chicago’와 더불어, 캐나다 토론토의 ‘Small World Music Festival’ 및 미국 5개 도시에 공식 초청되어 투어를 진행한 작품이다. 이번 앨범에는 ‘신(神)의 빗방울’ 레퍼토리 전곡을 수록하여, 그동안의 활동과 음악적 성취를 기념하고자 한다.

이번 공연은 ‘신(神)의 빗방울’ 레퍼토리 전곡을 수록한 '초벌비' 1집 발매를 기념하는 자리로, 홍성현아트컴퍼니의  그동안의 활동과 음악적 성취를 기념하고 초벌비 프로젝트의 새로운 시즌의 시작을 알리며, 오랜 시간동안 아티스트를 변함없이 응원해주는 관객과 함께 따뜻하고 소소한 음악 이야기를 나누고자한다.

From 2008 to 2017,  Hong Sung Hyun had studied under the master of Korean East Coast Shaman Ritual(Donghaean Bulsingut), Kim Yong Taek, the holder of Korean intangible cultural heritages, and his percussive music is a fruit of new and creative practices deeply rooted in Korean Shaman beats and rhythms.

​As his creative musical sources, Hong adapts the contents and structure of folk and shaman music, in which the percussion takes the central role, to lead various traditional melodic instruments as an ensemble. He made a remarkable debut at the Asia Pacific Music Meeting (APaMM) showcase with Chobeolbi - The Divine Rain Drop and has presented his work in World Music Festival Chicago, Global Roots Festival, ¡Globalquerque!, and Small World Music Festival. 

The Project title, Chobeolbi means ‘the very first rain shower’. As the title implies, Hong has been constantly contemplating to create music that sympathizes with the public and cleanses and comforts the hearts of the tired modern people and The Divine Rain Drop is the first proper fruit of such efforts.
